I used to enjoy The Da Vinci Code as a piece of schlock pulp but it certainly has a lot to answer for when it comes to spreading ridiculous ideas. I think that's a great point of comparison as The Last Temptation takes a very serious and grounded approach to its subject.

Thanks for pointing out the angle of it being blasphemous in relation to the gospels, that's something I missed while writing. I may be a bit biased when it comes to this movie because I never had any strong faith so I came to it without a lot of baggage (for want of a better word), but I think people who dismiss it really do themselves a disservice. I firmly believe that it could be a useful tool for comparative studies and for people struggling with issues of faith.

Back in May Scorsese announced that he's working on a new film about Jesus, and with his more religious worldview now I really hope he gets to make it and look forward to seeing what approach he takes with a new film.

Thanks Simon :)
