There’s a story that film historian Henri Langlois had a chance to buy a print of Bara’s Salome and sadly didn’t as it wasn’t thought a classic, but later regretted being prejudiced. How much has been lost because it wasn’t “worth” keeping. Even Mary Pickford wanted her prints of her early films burned after she died but thankfully donated them to the AFI. Discoveries this like really make you wonder what’s left out there waiting to be found.
